School Social Work
Our team of school social workers work with students, families, and school personnel to help students comfortably interact in their communities. Within the special education team, school social workers conduct the family socio-cultural interview and meet with families and other agencies to help the child adjust in school. Our school social workers specialize in integrating the family and the school with a strong focus on supporting the social aspects of a child's life. They provide community resources for families and assist parents in accessing programs available to children with special needs.
While both the school social worker and school psychologist will meet with students for counseling sessions, the school social worker will focus on social skills, whereas the school psychologist will focus more on cognitive and academic tasks. Both school social workers and school psychologists address mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, and classroom support.
